Exploring Edinburgh: A Memorable Experience

Scotland proved to be an absolute success, offering a delightful experience for all. With pleasant weather in June and a serene journey into the heart of the capital city, Edinburgh, we found ourselves at the Premier Inn Edinburgh East Hotel, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. The hotel was exceptional, providing ample parking for the BMW 1250 right by the front door. Additionally, there was a fantastic restaurant conveniently attached to the building. Although slightly distant from the city center, the hotel served as a perfect base for our adventures.

Setting off on Foot: The Holyrood Park Trail

Eager to stretch our legs after several days of motorcycle travel, we embarked on a scenic walk from the hotel, making our way into Edinburgh across the breathtaking Holyrood Park. This picturesque landscape offers stunning views of Arthur’s Seat and provides a captivating perspective of the city center. Our ultimate goal was Edinburgh Castle, intending to reach it by lunchtime to witness the famed 1 o’clock gun. Please note that if you plan to visit, be mindful of the days when the gun is not fired, such as Sundays, Christmas Day, and Good Friday.

Rejuvenating Scenery and Fascinating Discoveries

The invigorating walk through the park rewarded us with magnificent vistas, making every step worthwhile. As we ventured further into Edinburgh, we stumbled upon the Holyrood Distillery in a residential area. It piqued our interest, and we made a mental note to return and explore it once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. The town houses lining the streets added to the charm, and before long, we found ourselves on the renowned Royal Mile, leading us straight to the grandeur of Edinburgh Castle.

Exploring the Historic Edinburgh Castle

Spending a couple of hours at Edinburgh Castle proved to be an absolute delight. The panoramic views of the sea were awe-inspiring, and we couldn’t resist delving into the reproduction of the olden times’ jail, immersing ourselves in history. Regrettably, due to a long queue, we missed out on visiting the keep with the jewelry. However, we had the privilege of witnessing the traditional firing of the gun at precisely 1 pm. This served as a signal for us to bid farewell to the castle and indulge in a scrumptious lunch at the highly recommended Cask Smugglers, concluding a truly excellent day.

In conclusion, our time in Edinburgh left an indelible mark, offering a blend of captivating landscapes, rich history, and unforgettable experiences. Whether strolling through Holyrood Park, exploring the grand Edinburgh Castle, or relishing the local cuisine, every moment was a testament to the city’s allure.
